It's been a few months since I last made a video while riding my bike, so I thought I'd give it another try on Sunday morning. This time I used the tiny Nikon Coolpix L18 instead of our large, heavy Canon PowerShot S5 IS.
Sunday Morning from BIKE Lite on Vimeo.
I didn't feel quite as comfortable this time, due to the new camera (trying to find the right buttons on the fly), more cars passing us than usual on these normally quiet streets, and trying to maneuver around the melting ice patches and pedestrians. But it did add a little thrill to the ride and made me look forward to trying it again.

That is so cool!! I love the music. How did you get camera to stay so steady; mounted on the handlebars? Keep making videos, they're so fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dottie! I just held the camera with one hand at chest level (the Amsterdamize method). I did use my handlebar camera mount for one video, but then I couldn't look around with the camera, and my arm does a better job at absorbing the bumps in the road. I did feel safer, though, since I had both hands on the bike. Both methods have their advantages. I'll have to do more experimenting and try to come up with a little more interesting subject matter!
ReplyDeleteOK, so I'm two weeks late watching this, but man I needed that this morning. Such a lovely, happy video. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed it! You should try it - I love seeing where other people ride.
ReplyDeletethe Amsterdamize method...lol, you're the first to call it that, honored! Smooth video and smooth ride, kudos!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Marc! I had to adapt your method to local conditions (lack of cool camera phone and cool cyclists in every direction), but it's still fun to try!
ReplyDeleteYour Coolpix has better quality video than my phone, believe me.
ReplyDeleteIt's always fun, dear :)
